It is here on the beautiful slopes of the Bottelary Hills in Stellenbosch where, over 300 years ago, exceptional individuals discovered the strong potentials of the soils; and it is exactly 312 years ago when the first vines were planted at Hazendal with the intention to produce the finest wines possible.
Several different ownerships, replanting schemes, cellar and building developments later, Hazendal today continues its winemaking legacy to produce inspiring, elegant and expressive wines, which are a genuine reflection of their place.
In 1994 Hazendal was purchased by its current owners, the Voloshin and Schumacher families, who commissioned a team of specialists to restore the farm to its former glory. The result is a truly unique blend which fuses traditional Cape Dutch architecture with state-of-the-art facilities; traditional winemaking know-how with advanced modern technology.
Inspired by the rich heritage of our estate and its country, together with the breathtaking beauty of our surroundings, the magical powers of nature and the people of our community, we, at Hazendal, continue year after year to provide the highest standards of craftsmanship and services; and we remain committed to the social welfare of our farm workers and all those involved in the production of our wines.
Let us share the sources of inspiration with you and invite you to be inspired by the multitude of pleasures that the modern Hazendal winery has to offer:
