LIMITED RELEASES
In addition to Hazendal's regular range, Hazendal produces limited release wines - such as the White Nights or the Pinotage.
Hazendal's limited releases are wines which are produced in small quantities and the production of these wines is very labour and packaging intensive. Only the best grapes are picked and very little juice is obtained from each grape to ensure high concentration of flavours, making Hazendal's limited release wines a special addition to any cellar or a unique gift.
Two of Hazendal's limited release wines - the White Nights and the Pinotage - were born out of the idea to mark a specific celebration, for instance the White Nights was created to celebrate the Millenium and the Pinotage was created for Mark Voloshin's 60th Birthday party. But once these wines got into the hands of a few, the word spread and the wines became so popular that they were added to Hazendal's wine portfolio.
Hazendal's Last Straw is a limited release that most certainly sets Hazendal Wine Estate apart. The innovative dessert wine uses grapes dried on straw mats adding to its distinct flavour.
THE LAST STRAW 2006
Vineyard Notes: This straw wine is made from 30 year-old bushvines in the Chenin Blanc vineyards. The grapes are hand picked very ripe between 23 - 24 degrees balling and then naturally dried on beds of fresh straw. This sweet white wine is then matured in 300 litre French oak barrels for 12 months.
Tasting Notes: This dessert wine has a wonderful multidimensional nose with a wheel carol of different flavours such as honey, vanilla, melons, citrus. The sweet white wine is indescribably deep and sensational with a distinct roundness on the palate.
Food Pairing Notes: Taking a sip of this nectar is like having a spoonful of caramel pudding - ideal for that after dinner treat.

WHITE NIGHTS (BELIYE NOCHI) 2003 MCC
Cultivars: 60% Chardonnay/ 40% Pinot Noir
Vineyard Notes: Part of this sweet white wine's taste comes from the gentle handling that the grapes receive from picking through to the fermentation stage. The grapes are picked at between 18.5 and 19 degrees balling and are gently pressed in whole bunches. The grapes are chosen from a mix of 8 year-old Pinot Noir and 10 year-old Chardonnay vineyards and must be fermented dry. Bottled in June 2003, this dessert wine spent four years on the lees before the first batch was degorged on the 19th of October 2007.
Some Extra Info: The 1998 maiden vintage was released in 2000 to celebrate the Millennium and Hazendal's Tercentenary. White Nights sweet wine evokes the rare and magical phenomenon of the Northern lights - breathtaking luminous bands of mystical silvery light that bathe the ancient Russian city of St. Petersburg - and reflect the influences of this country on Hazendal Wine Estate and its wines.
Tasting Notes: This sweet wine is fruity and medium-bodied with an attractive creamy texture. There's a distinct yeastiness, not unlike freshly-baked bread, and delicate apple flavours on the finish.
Food Pairing Notes: This classic champagne-style wine is a true all-rounder. It can be enjoyed on its own, paired with seafood and light meat dishes or served as a brunch wine with eggs and omelettes as well as accompanying cheese and dessert platters.
