WHITE WINES FROM HAZENDAL WINE ESTATE

Hazendal Wine Estate has a wide range of white wines on offer and many have won some prestigious South African wine awards. Headed by winemaker Ronell Wiid, the Hazendal vineyard and winery is a busy place and produces some of the Cape Winelands' best Sauvignon Blancs and Chenin Blancs as well as many innovative blends.

HAZENDAL - SAUVIGNON BLANC 2009

Vineyard Notes: This particular South African wine is made from 20 year-old bushvines. 2009 was one of the best white wine vintages of the decade, especially for the Sauvignon Blanc.

Tasting Notes: The intense aromas of tropical fruits into a crisp, refreshing sensation on the nose. Elegant and wonderfully balanced, this South African wine combines the acidity close to that of Granny Smith Apples with the ripeness of a well-matured cantaloupe. The finish of the wine is lingering, round and ultimately satisfying.

Food Pairing Notes: Pairs well with a light shellfish dish or poultry dishes such as chicken and turkey along with green vegetables.

HAZENDAL - CHENIN BLANC WOODED 2009

Vineyard Notes: This vintage is made from 30 year-old bushvines and the grapes are harvested at 26 degrees balling and when fully ripe.

Tasting Notes: This straw-coloured wine with its silky, creamy character has a good balance between subtle oak and the fruit intensity on the palate. It is a serious and complex wine with balanced flavours of vanilla, herbs, honey and lime tree, with a long and intense finish. This South African wine has been matured in French and American oak barrels for 10-11 months.

Food Pairing Notes: A great seafood wine. Pairs well with sushi, scallops, shrimp, and many other fish varieties. With its buttery taste it can even stand up to a light chicken or pork dish.

HAZENDAL - BUSHVINE CHENIN BLANC 2009

Vineyard Notes: The Chenin Blanc is made from 30 year-old bushvines, the grapes are picked very ripe between 23 - 24 degrees balling. Planted in sandy soil with no irrigation, the average yield of this vineyard is between four and five tons per hectare. 2009 was one of the best white wine vintages of the decade.

Tasting Notes: The 2009 vintage is extremely ripe and matured with tropical fruits existents and the warm aromas of winter apples. The round, full bodied palate lingers in perfect balance with citrus acidity and crispy, refreshing complexity.

Food Pairing Notes: This Hazendal Wine Estate specialty is excellent with spicy Moroccan and Indian dishes. This wine also nicely accentuates the sweeter flavours in mild cheeses and lighter meat dishes including ham and chicken, making it the ideal choice for your next cheese and wine evening.

HAZENDAL - BLANC DE NOIR 2009

Cultivar: 100% Merlot

Vineyard Notes: Coming from young red grapes, this Cape Winelands specialty wine is made up of the press portion of sparkling wine cuvee. Grapes are handled very gently all the way through from the picking to the fermentation stages.

Tasting Notes: The satin salmon colour of this Hazendal Wine Estate wine is complemented by hints of strawberries and cream on the nose. It has a creamy, gentle palate with a fresh, clean and crisp finish.

Food Pairing Notes: While excellent alone, this wine is also the ideal accompaniment to starters such as caviar, prosciutto or smoked salmon.
