WHAT TO EXPECT ON A HAZENDAL WINE TASTING

At Hazendal, the belief is that the best way to enjoy the Stellenbosch wines on offer is in a relaxed and unstressed environment. For this reason, while there is a loose format, wine tastings can be tailored to each guest's needs and wants, ensuring that each one gets the most out of their South African wine experience.
From South African red wines of note to Hazendal's specialty dessert wines, anything can be sampled during a tasting, exposing guests to a wide variety of vintages and flavours. A Hazendal wine tasting usually takes place in the tasting centre, but can also be done over a delicious meal in the Hermitage Restaurant. Lunch can also follow a tasting, with the delicious fusion of Russian and South African cuisine served in the restaurant truly rounding off a spectacular day.
Wine tastings can also be combined with a free wine tour that traverses the entire estate and takes guests back in time to a different era in winemaking. Finding out about the history of the estate and its architecturally significant buildings precedes an extensive tasting and tour of the new fermentation cellar where guests can learn all about the winemaking process.
THE PRACTICALITIES
Wine tasting of Hazendal's revered Stellenbosch wines takes place during opening hours throughout the week and costs R10 per person. Groups of five people or more are advised to pre-book to ensure that sufficient South African red wines and other varieties are available on the day. Any special requests can also be accommodated if stated in advance when booking. For those not wishing to follow up the wine tasting or wine tour with lunch, cheese or snack platters are available to accompany the tasting and simply need to be ordered in advance.
