Hazendal’s new golf course has been causing quite a stir among Capetonian golfing aficionados and visiting golf enthusiasts alike since the greens first opened early in 2021, and to be honest, we weren’t all that surprised.

Here’s what you need to know about playing golf at Hazendal and why the world-class par-3 course gained instant popularity.

The Hazendal golf course design and layout

Hazendal’s new golf course is an expertly designed and manicured par-3 short course, with large, tricky greens that feature many undulations to challenge golfers of all skill levels. The course is relatively short but calls for incredible accuracy with short irons, especially when conditions are windy.

Expect thick roughs that put short-game skills to the test, as well as bentgrass greens that make for a beautifully smooth putting surface that’s receptive to spin and holds the true line of a putt to a T.

The surrounding scenery and natural setting of the Hazendal golf course are also something quite spectacular. Think pockets of conserved natural vegetation, indigenous trees and distant mountain views. In short – awe-inspiring.

“The Hazendal golf course is a fantastic option for golfers who want to enjoy a great game, but don’t want to take too much time doing so. A course like this should not take longer than 2 hours to play. It is also easier for juniors and beginners, and is conducive to learning all the intricacies of the game regardless of its length,” says Lana Orgovanyi, Hazendal Golf Manager.

Opening hours

Summer hours at the new Hazendal golf course are as follows:

  • Tuesday to Thursday: 07:00 – 18:00
  • Friday and Saturday: 06:30 – 18:30

Facilities available at Hazendal’s new golf course

The Hazendal golf course offers shower facilities, as well as storage facilities for personal items, and a kiosk for beer, wine and soft drinks. But wait, there’s more…

The Burrow Driving Range at Hazendal is ideal for when the weather is wet or you want to focus on your short game. It’s also a great option for non-golfers who want to enjoy an active day out or fun team-building events for corporate groups.

Featuring InRange AI technology, the range is suitable for golfers of all ages and skill levels. The facility boasts 32 hitting bays, including 14 undercover bays, as well as 18 open-air bays. Players also have access to 80m a pitching area with two bunkers, two chipping greens and a large practice green that also has bentgrass to facilitate a consistent experience.
