When it comes to planning the perfect event, the internet is your best friend. There is so much inspiration to be found online – and not to mention guidance, tips and helpful insights.

If you’re putting together your own event, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. And, if you’re a professional event coordinator, it can be challenging to come up with fresh ideas for every function.

Enter, event blogs! Below, we share five of our favourites, each curated for a specific audience and each with plenty of great ideas and practical advice for planning a memorable event. They offer great ideas and practical advice for planning a WOW event, be it a wedding, conference or special occasion.

1. The Pink Book

This beautiful blog is focused primarily on weddings, and offers an impressive directory of South Africa’s top wedding vendors. Here, you’ll find everything from flowers to party favours – and everything in between, of course.

But that’s only the beginning of this pretty-packed blog. You’ll also be inspired by the extensive wedding tips and ideas section. There are checklists, budget and planning guides, and articles on elements of your big day you may not have thought of like the layout of your wedding chairs, or the responsibilities of the best man.

If you’re into crafts and being creative, there’s plenty to delight you. Learn how to hand make confetti sachets or sugar scrubs infused with local fynbos oils; succulent centre pieces and our favourite: unique scratch card save-the-dates. These are fabulous ideas for your wedding, and the suggestions can even be used for other special events like birthday parties, bridal showers, and other milestone events.

2. SA Weddings

SA Weddings is another wedding-based blog that both coordinators and planners can turn to for inspiration and directory searches for fantastic venues.

This blog features a host of helpful information for planning a spectacular event. Be inspired by beautifully styled shoots, real weddings and engagement shoots, or delve into the myriad articles, interviews and helpful videos. Many happy hours will pass before you know it!

For several years, the blog has also been running a Bride of the Year competition. Peruse the runners-up for hair, make-up, and outfit inspiration, or simply to vote for your favourite. You can even bookmark it to enter after your big day.

The SA Weddings blog will provide all the inspiration you need, and much more, when you’re planning the biggest event of your life.

3. The Event Planners

While this blog focuses fairly heavily on weddings (and wow, are they magnificent!), there is an entire section dedicated to corporate and private events. Scroll through the gallery to glimpse some of the glitzy affairs they’ve created, from private parties and product launches to gala dinners and awards ceremonies, and allow yourself to be inspired by the glamour.

You’ll also see their clever use of colour and patterns to create a golden thread through each event. This is a striking way to make your event stand out, and it also offers a great backdrop to the photography. An eye-catching colour scheme has the power to tie your entire event together, while making for fabulous photos too, so keep this in mind when you’re conceptualising your event.

4. Aleit Events
