The Gallery was established in 2018 to showcase the Estate’s private collection and has since evolved into a space celebrating both emerging and re-emerging South African and African contemporary artists.
Beyond its own walls, the Gallery manages the display of art throughout the Estate, from the Wine Lounge and Siyalima to the Hotel and Homestead, ensuring that meaningful works enrich every corner of Hazendal. With new exhibitions presented every three to four months, the Gallery offers visitors a dynamic, ever-evolving art experience.

NOW SHOWING | Soft Escapes 22 August 2026 – Current
"Each moment of time is a beginning." — James Carse Soft Escapes explores play as a restorative mode of being in an increasingly productive, outcome-oriented world. Inspired by James Carse's concept of the infinite game, the exhibition considers play, imagination, and pause as forms of engagement rooted in curiosity and possibility. Across painting, sculpture, and mixed media, the exhibition brings together artists whose practices unfold through looking, wandering, and making. These works create spaces where play becomes a shared language for exploring meaning, interconnectedness, and healing. Rather than a detachment from reality, Soft Escapes proposes temporary departure as a form of renewal, inviting us to pause, move beyond measurement, and rediscover the joy of presence and play.
